Let's see, I've tried:
The hammer and screwdriver trick
The hammer and block of wood trick
The channel-lock pliers trick (with and without the vise grips)
The "trying to break apart the plastic collar" trick
The "lightly spraying of WD40 in the exposed threaded area" trick
The "trying to tighten it to dislodge any gunk holding it back" trick
Absolutely nothing has worked, other than to break some of the tabs, chip away a small part of the top of the collar, bend the edge of the metal opening of the car body where the access cover goes (oops!), and many cuss words for the neighbors to enjoy. What is holding it in: Gorilla Glue?
What do I do short of having to have it towed to the local indie and have him give it a go (to the tune of a tow charge and the indie's charge to do something that I could easily do but can't get past this point on)????
