I ended up driving my convertible around 1500 miles this week for multiple job interviews. Tuesday it was the same temperature in Phoenix as it was in Albany (NY) so being able to drive the convertible with the rear windows down was really nice. Then on Friday it went back to 40 degrees and raining, so the tires, new alignment, and balanced handling showed up. Both days were buggy, and for those who think aerodynamics are underrated, I had half as many bugs on my windshield at the end of the trip, meaning I could still see. All the P21S in the world won't help this time of year.
On to the questions- the car is a 1992 S ragtop with (now) 113K.
The shift linkage binds between fifth and fourth gears; I think it is getting confused between "push" and "pull" gears, the shifter is securely fastened- is it the rubber rectangle, the clamp, the taper pin, or the shifter exit bushing? I'm about to order the alignment tool for the rear cover of the gearbox from Swab.
The car runs hot on warm days.... Only one cooling fan operated.... Give me another couple of weeks
I've put in a known good AMM and AIC valve and have recently replaced the cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and air filter, but I still sometimes get a hiccup off idle or in very low rev range. Could it be a geriatric oxygen sensor or leaking fuel pressure regulator?
Fuel mileage is getting to where I want it to be- first tank was 28 and I was on the throttle a bit, then the next two were 31.3 and 31.0. I'm making 520 miles on 17.5 gallons, so there's nothing to complain about here. Also the new AMM went in early in the second tank of gas, so no more rich startups.
I'm still experiencing a little throttle lag- let off the gas to shift and the engine speed does not drop immediately. I checked the TPS in storage and it seemed to be good. Is this just how this engine/FI setup drives? Or is it because the silly bypass valve makes the throttle cable bend about 20 degrees as soon as it's out of the steel collar through the firewall?
Is there anyway to make the zipper on the backlight (rear window, convertible) work any easier? I took the window down one day and it later took me around an hour to get the zipper started again.
The front suspension groand mildly. A arm bushing$$$ or sway bar bushings? Brand new ball joints and tie rod ends.
How the heck do I get the lower dash pad out? There's some kind of rubberized sealant on the end of the bolts in the fenderwells, and with the extra steel reinforcement for the convertible windshield in there, they are A PAIN to access. Has anyone found tricks to getting at these?
And finally, the cruise actuator seems to like to tug on the gas pedal a little after it is set, and then back off. Is this adjustable?
I love this car, maybe that's why I have so much to fix on it.
