...and a digital micrometer to check different brand pads from the ones you got, and-or other rotors? For many installations, a little more meat on the pads would be a blessing so a thoughtless supplier might be adding a little too much. But as in your case, with brand new rotors (also could be over spec), the extra meat doesn't fit?
You might also find a cooperative parts person at a local Saab dealer, or one of the online suppliers, to do some mike checking.
10 thou over, needing to be tapped in with a mallet, is certainly too much if it's for real. However, if pistons somehow aren't pushed home quite enough, all your doubt could be unjustified.
It's awful to think you could have to start doubting things that have always been trustworthy.
