It isn't unique to Saabs - the used car market is bad in general. Incentives on new cars, financing rates, and all the CPO-type programs really put a crimp on private sellers trying to move old cars, no matter their condition. I'm not readily aware of many cars that are holding their value rights now - around here, even 944Ts are starting to hurt. Used to be you couldn't touch one for under $5k, now I see them popping up more and more regularly.
Beyond that, restoring old cars is rarely a good investment. I actually just bought a c900Tc from a private seller - he had his heart in Porsche 356s. While we were talking about the rare '86 900Tc, he made the comment, "I've got almost $40k into that 356, I doubt it's worth worth $20k on the market." By and large you keep old cars nice for you, not for other people. As others said, finding those who value your car as much as you do is a tough job, even on true classics like Porsches.
