Two ways without disassembling the engine.
1. Run car up to 80-110mph and hold for 4-6 hours, turn around and come home. Burn gas, enjoy life, avoid Smokies, engine cleaned. You may have misfires, back off, run it up again. Basically, carbon accumulates from engines not operated at high enough manifold pressure.
2. Some people have been known to disconnect catalytic converter before doing this to avoid carbon plugs. Run warm/hot engine up to 2000 rpm and hold. Inject or otherwise cause the engine to ingest several quarts of water in a controlled manner...you don't want to stall the engine or hydrolock it! The thermal shock of the water hitting the hot intake ports, valves, and combustion chamber/pistons will steam away water. All kinds of crap pours out the exhaust pipe. Probably won't hurt the turbocharger. Alternatively, you can use a water injection system plumbed up to your windshield washer reservoir and do it automatically and improve horsepower. I've used this method on old American carbureted engines with some success although I prefer method #1.
3. Also a third way...there are tools/machines available that can decarbon intake valves and combustion chambers through walnut shell blasting and vacuuming. I've never seen one work, I've just heard about them. I suspect they involve at least removing the intake manifold....
