rob and bj,
thank you for the advice.
i tried to find independent saab people in peoria, but could only find a dealer. the mechanic looking at my car in galesburg has worked on saabs. it was the best i could do from 3 hours away. he said that the motor locked up, the engine won't turn over even with a mechanical device, the rod on the crank shift went bad and that the crank shaft won't move in either direction.
the person driving the car said the oil kept running out and she would re-fill it. the only place open on that sunday was a sears, they checked and said there was no oil leak, so the engine was burning oil. and they said the battery was dead, so they put in a new battery, which ran for a minute!!!
the cost to tow it to chicago is over $400. i don't know if i can make that money back in parts. what do you think? i have listed it in the saab classifieds under parts. i have had some inquiries but no one wants to drive that far to get it-3 hours from chicago.
the mechanic will charge me $55/hr to take out some parts. i don't know if my mechanic would buy it for parts. i have nowhere to keep it to part it out.
i am so sad... i love my car...
thank you for your advice and sentiments- it is truly appreciated.
Betsy
