If the oil kept running out, if it was over a period of weeks or days, then perhaps it got low enough before you had a chance to add more that it locked up the engine. This is actually what happened on my first 900- it had an oil leak that I knew about, but I let the engine idle for about 45 minutes (a long story as to why, I wont go into it) and it fried the engine.

For $55 an hour, you definitely arent going to make any money having the mechanic take parts off. There are only a few parts that are easily removed, and even if you do that it is going to make the car less attractive to a Saab nut looking for a parts car. If any parts have been removed already, then prospective buyers arent going to be as interested because they will assume the good parts were taken off already. On the other hand, it sounds like the car was well taken care of which is a definite bonus. I would give the classifieds a chance. Here is a copy of my parts sales from my Excel file from when I parted my car out. The first column is what the person paid including shipping costs, the second column is how much I made after I paid shipping. Also, I advertised all parts on the car for sale, and these are the only ones I was able to sell.
