Like others stated, I would go with intrax from group9 which will cost about $250 shipped I beleive.
The SPG are old & outdated & I feel give inferior ride & handling compared with intrax.
You do need new shocks & I would suggest koni's which can be found for under $400 a set. Stay away from KYB's!!
Intrax will lower the car more then SPG springs
the pic is of my SPG with intrax & obvously aftermarket wheels however their overall diameter is pretty much exactly like stock so you can get a idea of the gap between tire-car :)
I know this link is a crappy pic however you can get a idea of what SPG springs look like with aero rims. Notice the gap between tire-car as well as how the car sits lower in the back :(
