Carried out a few tests as suggested and found the sleeve that couples the main cluster to it's front gear had slid forward. Moved it back and repositioned the holding clip. This fixed the drive problem. I will pick up some piano wire and use it to tie the clip ends together in an attempt to prevent the clip moving out of position again.
