My car is really acting up. Here is the history, My '88 900 SPG (217K) has always jerked when I got on the gas, I used to think that I needed a new clutch, maybe not? One day I came outside and my car had been hit, what I didn't realize was that the jerk also had broken my oil cooler, about 14 miles later I ran out of oil on the highway. Ever since the running out of oil incident, the valves have ticked a whole bunch. But it still ran just fine. Until...
The other day my beat up exhaust fell off of my car, it was sort of wet outside. On the drive home, I noticed that the rpms would not stay steady, instead they jumped around a real lot. (3rpm would drop to 1rpm and then up to 2... etc). The next day on my way to home it stalled a bunch on the highway and would die if I was not giving it gas. (my friend following me said the car was shaking a bunch), About 1.5 miles it died for good. So current it has a REALLY REALLY tough time turning over and once it does, it has a VERY loud valve tick. If I try to give it gas, the second I let off the throlle it dies. What could this be? I pulled the hoses off the turbo and there is zero play in the turbo, so I don't THINK it's that. Where is the oil pump in these cars and how do I check it? How do I check it? Is there a high failure rate with oil pumps on these cars? Should I put a new head on or if the head is ruined is it likely that the pistons are as well? Please help I am at a loss and I need this car to get to and from school and work.
