I drove my car 400 miles from my house in Hayward,CA to Boron, CA to do a job at a chemical plant (US Borax) out in the middle of nowhere. They probably never have seen a Saab out there. Well backing out in the morning at the motel to go to the job site, BAM, I thought I hit something. My passenger side upper control arm broke off! The car was an 88 SPG with maybe 88k miles at the time. The first thought in my mind was, I'm in the middle of nowhere, where am I going to get this part and who can fix it?? I couldn't imagine towing my car hundreds of miles out of the desert to get it fixed. I called my customer and told him the situation. He said he had a mechanic friend that maybe could help me. As it turned out, the mechanic happened to have a spare one from a junk yard! (mind you, this wasn't a Saab indy and there are no Saab shops/dealers within 200 miles). Man, I thanked God that day. The mechanic only charged me $200 to fix it with the part also. The car now has 240k miles with that A-arm. You just never know.
