while I have spilled too many sodas in the key slot, and have gone so far as to take the cover off to clean the outside of the key slot, the cool grean plastic light conducting ring, and replace the bulb, I've never had to resort to dumping "boiling water" thru the thing. but i've always done my work inside the garage. but if it works for you go for it. as to the corrosive nature, I don't have rust on the left coast but always hear about it from you guys (and see the pictures on the east coast cars on ebay), see the posts about water leaks and all, so I tend to keep the water on the outside. also, I was trying to give the guy a solution that didn't assume anything, like him haveing an air compressor? Silver 900S with 360K miles (purchased from Micky at Continental in 1987 - where Mike Lynch works) has had the "treatment" about four times over the years... I'll see if I can get a picture there on thursday when we have lunch.
