I was beside myself when it came out. I actually thought I had broken the bolt in the shaft as the nut started spinning much easier. I remarked to myself, "Damn, that RayF was absolutely right." And then I smiled!

I had read the Townsend tip on using the pliers to lock the flywheel, but I couldn't quite understand how to go about it. I assume the pliers should be clamped onto the flywheel, each jaw on either side of the flywheel. Then have the handles of the pliers against the bell-housing (tranny case) on whichever side will keep the flywheel from turning when loosening or tightening. Will locking the pliers onto the flywheel damage it? Will they have enough grip to act against the torque of removing the bolts?

I am seeing that the RMS and the shaft seal can both be PITA's. I feel the RMS should be replaced since it's a common leak area, esp. with 147K miles. I went out and purchased a 4" externally-threaded PVC pipe cap. This covers the metal lip of the seal perfectly, and when I tap on it, should drive the seal in correctly. Does the seal sit flush or recessed when installed? I'm also planning on using 518 sealer on the RMS and the shaft seal (as I had read in a past post).
