Hi RT
Being from CT, I know the c900 situation around here and being a c900 owner, I hope I can give you some useful advice. The old 900's are great cars, and even after moving up to a Viggen from my 85 SPG clone (which I still have as well, of course!), I often find myself wanting the toss around the c900 instead of the Viggen. The problem is, like CMyles stated, that these cars are old now. My 85 only has a couple years before it's an 'antique!' This means that they require lots of little fixes. They're very reliable when compared to other cars of similar age/mileage, but plan on a few hundred dollars every year in repairs...my most recent include brakes, starter, alternator, water pump, power steering rack, CV joints, wheel bearings, and other standard/wear items. This is really not a big deal, and doesn't affect my love for the car at all (unless several things go at once!) The other problem, my fellow new englander, is that the DOT's of our fine states like to use lots of salt in the winter, and these cars, while better than most, will rust. Doors, fenders, lower A-frames (often the 'killer'), and hoods usually have some kind of rust (not all at once, but usually one or two spots). To me, if the car has a good body and transmission, then everything else is secondary. These cars are runners (especially the turbos and SPGs, check the perf. bb), and you can have plenty of fun with them. Generally speaking, if you can find a C900 with ~100k miles, minimal rust and a good tranny, I would pay up to 2k for it. If it's a 90's turbo or any year spg and it has those qualities, it may be worth 3k.
Phew. Sorry for the length; hope this helps you weigh the good and bad sides (though its mostly good!) of C900 ownership. Best of luck!
