these cars are truly unique and i believe just on the cusp of being called 'collector' cars, especially with GM owning Saab, rolling out new models and in the process giving the Saab name more mainstream status and thus creating an inevitable cult following for 'the origin of the species' type collectors.
in your email you dont really talk about your mechanical knowledge, shop setup (if any) etc.
if you arent much into DIY'ing, i'd suggest finding a non turbo in solid condition. Dont expect a lot of power or performance. Engine repairs and complexity are low. DIY clutch work is doable.
If you buy a turbo, you will need to buy tools and get space to maintain the car yourself or you will quickly spend as much on repairs at the 'shop' as you did to purchase the car to begin with. In my mind it makes no sense to do that. You'd be better off buying a newer car with a good reliability reputation. what that car is, i dont know.
i love working on my SPG, but the engine bay is very crowded and it takes more time to do things like water pumps, alternators, clutch because its a turbo.
good luck,
