tranny rebuilt... still hear bearing noise!

I had my 5-speed transmission rebuilt. Its from a 1991 saab 900. It was making what as far as I could tell was pinion bearing whine. Very speed dependent and only when the gas is applied... worse in 5th but noted in other gears if you get it up to speed. I had a mechanic... a guy with a 15 year history at a saab dealership who opened his own shop specializing in saabs rebuild it and do a host of other repairs. I saw the tranny torn apart and he showed me what parts were bad and what he was going to replace. I got the car back last night... and I still hear the noise. Im big time in the hole right now on this car and I have no gaurantee on the work. What is recommended? I have not been able to talk to the guy this weekend. Could the noise be something other than bearings in the tranny? If it is still a problematic tranny thousands of dollars later... is there anything I can do? Im so deeply frustrated right now with this situation. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks
