Hi All,
I'm still working away at my 1985 SPG. Apart from minor issues she's driving really great, well was until a couple of days ago. A couple of mornings ago I notice that the starter was turning over a little slower... Upon checking the battery voltage I found that it was discharged. Ok, so my stereo had died and I figured it was shorted out and causing the problem. Took out the stereo, and the battery is still draining. I replaced the VR a few weeks ago, and it was charging nicely at 14V at the battery while the car was running. I checked again today and it's charging at 13.5V. But the battery drained from 12V to 11.3V over the course of a day. So here's what I checked so far:
Checked continuity/voltage from positive terminal to positive cable after removing cable. I see 11.3V (same as battery). I pull all fuses and relays one a time to localize the problem, but no dice.
I thought I might have a drain at the alternator since I tightened down some wires recently. Working all the way to the starter, there is still voltage continuity as described above even with the + cable to starter removed!
I haven't checked the positive cable that goes to the distribution block in the passenger side fender, but does anyone have any suggestions on other obvious/usual wiring faults to check?? I'm at my wit's end and my car just barely wants to start every time I get in. Thanks in advance!
