Oldsaab, thanks for responding. I don't think I have any combustion chamber deposits to worry about...& if there's some crud on top of the intake valves, the Techron I've got in the tank now should take care of it.
The cap/rotor/plugs & wires (Borgi's) are all very recent...I cleaned, re-gapped & re-installed the Bosch Platinum plugs last night. I will put a new set of NGK 7's in (& a new cat) before having the car re-tested as a precaution - but I'm still extremely curious about what the BMW dual electrode plugs will do & if nobody advises me against it, I might pop them in tonight.

Five more questions, then I'll shut up:
- Does anyone know if the valve on top of the charcoal evap. canister contains a diaphragm? I can blow/suck air through mine...normal or not?
- Will a bad dashpot affect HC emissions? (Haynes says it's supposed to reduce unburned HC upon deceleration)
- Will richening the fuel mixture increase HC emissions? When I increase the AMM resistance to add more fuel & reduce NoX...what will this do to HC readings which are double the limit now?
- What are some causes of idle surging other than vacuum leaks? The engine starts great cold, then stumbles & stalls w/a noticeable surge upon restarting. Could this be a bad NTC sensor? I've tested it at varying temps. & it seems to be within spec.
- If the turbo is leaking oil past BOTH sides of the thrust bearing...into the intake & directly into the exhaust as I suspect it does on occasion - will this affect emissions? Is this likely to shorten the life of the o2 sensor & catalytic converter?
Thanks everyone.
