On most repairs using generic flat plate, I eyeball the hole that needs filled, then cut, shape, and fit the patch until it's right. Sometimes I make a template out of thin cardboard first, then trace it onto the sheet metal and cut it out. I try to make the templates/patches before cutting any rusted metal away, as this gives the truest form of what's needed.
The repair on that severely rotted a-frame mounting cost the owner $300. That's less than it would have cost if he bought the Safe-T cap frame repair panel and had someone weld it in.
I'm in northern Ohio, west of Cleveland. I used to work on Saabs professionally back in the late 80's, but now am just a hobbyist who likes to do fabrication and welding.
