distributors and compatibility Posted by vvack0matic [Email] ![]() ![]() |
i found i have the old style distributor with the side-way plug.
finding out i may have a bad hall sensor in the diss. i went and picked 2 used distributors that have the different plug hook up, (89 & 92) noticing this i grabbed the plug for the diss. so i would be able to cut my plug out of the car and crimp this one in.
but after i examined the old style diss. and the newer style i see the diss, cap mounts to the distributor differently than the old style.
also noticing when the rotor of the new diss. is straight up and in aligned with the hall sensor the cam end is slightly to the left,
with the old style diss, & the rotor in line with the hall sensor the cam end is precisely vertical.
i noticed the dis cap is slightly off from the old style but im wondering if the cam end makes up for it.
of course i would have to rewire the spark plugs so the twist in the cap dose not affect the timing.
but im wondering if i cut my plug,. wire up the later style plug, compensate for the rotation of the cap with the plug wires,.. would the later style diss, work?
(seemed with my current problem of the car dieing dead was not fixed, the test drive wasn't long enough to heat the motor up, this heat sensitive problem is hard to trouble shoot, however i don't think any other item on the car can have the heat sensitive symptom other than, coil, hall sensor, amplifier,...)
