If the original stud and nut is in place then you'd have to remove the nut and then the stud to reseal the threads. If the stud and nut have been replaced with a short bolt then it's much more likely to be leaking, the person who made that change may not have known that the threads should be sealed. If that's where the leak is and there is a stud and nut I'd first try removing the nut and tightening the stud in the case. Dealing with just one tranny to case fastener won't be a problem.
Wow, somebody either really over-tightened those cover bolts or they put red thread-locker on them. Those should be 8 x 1.25 mm pitch bolts. If the new bolts are a little too long they won't cinch down because they go into pocketed holes. Lock washers couldn't hurt but the OEM bolts have a flat washer face and simply get torqued with no thread-locker or nothin. Cheers
