Austin,
The WD40 will break down grease and gunk pretty well but you may have to blow the dissolved stuff out with compressed air. For corrosion it kind of depends on the type of connector. Some you can disassemble and clean the pins with steel wool or fine abrasive paper. Pin sockets can be cleaned with a drill bit but usually if they need that it's better to replace the connector. You just have to be creative. Once they've developed more than just a haze of corrosion they don't seem to be very salvageable. Salvage yards will usually sell you a big chunk of Saab wiring harness from a car and then you'll have a stash of wire and connectors when you need them and they're the right type for your car. I need to replenish my stash next time I'm near a crusher bound car. Cheers
