Michael,
After you have pulled out the stack (clutches and planetary gears) you have to remove the output assembly before you can remove the pinion assembly. The forward end of the pinion shaft is taper bored and the rearward end of the output shaft has a tapered stub that plugs in there. The output shaft is hollow and threaded so a long bolt threaded in there will hit the end of the pinion shaft and "press" the output shaft away. Then you can lift out the output assembly. The after you remove the differential you'll see that the pinion assembly is held into the case by four bolts, remove those bolts and the pinion housing pushes out of the main case. Cheers
