I'd say that $300 for a wheel bearing is quite reasonable. Even if everything goes well (and you know it won't) this one's worth it to me. You have to press the bearings out and in without mashing up the swivel member much, all after taking everything apart and on and on. That being said, unless the bearing noise is really pronounced, you can let it slide for a while. I still enjoy 900 corner-fig-newton and both of mine ('88 with 225k, '92 with only 132k) still have all their original bearings. The '88 started making a very quiet front noise in 2005 but it hasn't gotten any louder. I'd say assemble the parts and farm it out once your next tax return comes in.
As for the WRs, how many miles are on them and how often do you rotate them? The WR is designed to be a four-season tire, so you don't have to swap to summers unless you have some lying around that need to be chewed up or you slalom your way to work.
