Well it's like this, IF you have a timing light, and IF the shop put your car at TDC before they did the mark... If you do the timing light and can't see the mark either move to another plug or if you have the expensive timing light change the degrees decrement until you can see the mark (basically just like doing timing but in reverse, see what it's set to vs. set it to a value). with a timing light you look down between the firewall and see the pulley and rev (or get someone else to...) the engine up and down and see the mark, it should be across the pulleys and should stay as a single scribe line. If the line splits, think those pictures of the roads after the major earthquakes in Landers in California, then it's coming apart. IF it stays as a single line and yet you are still getting squealing... it's the belts. Do the WD-40 thing as I mentioned before, one belt at a time (if you have AC then that's 4 belts) to see if you can isolate which one is unhappy. If you can quiet them down, and you always get the squeal when cold... let it cool off, spray all of the belts and start, see if it's different, if so, it's the belts. as another mentioned, I thought it was the balancers on one of my cars too, but it was the belts, read other post about the alternator bushings too.
If you don't have the timing light then you can still look down with a flashlight, it's just that the strobe makes it easier to stop action, look for the same stuff as above.
