Hi OldSaab!

The first time is the hardest, right?

Before you arrived to the thread, I took the alternator belt and water pump belts off their pulleys without loosening #3 bolt.

Is it just me? Or do your two alternator pics show #3 bolt on both sides of the alternator? I will go investigate my car to see if it is on both sides in a few minutes.

How important is the loosening of #3 bolt?

Before reading your above post, I simply took off #1 and #2 bolts off the slider bracket, pushed the loose alternator towards the engine and removed the water pump belt and the alternator belt from their pulleys, put a piece of wood to gently support the alternator while I went around to the passenger side to locate the brackets and bolts that support the AC drive to remove the AC belt.

Presently, I am working on finding the correct bolt sizes. And the strength to crack them.
Sure hope, if facing the head from the passenger side that I loosen the bolt to the left. I tried and it looks like these might be difficult to crack. I am happy to see the new figure in Bentley makes sense to me now showing the arrows to the bolts on the brackets to the power steering belt drive. Yea!

RE: The AC belt: " The AC compressor belt is adjusted through the belts idler pulley, simply loosen the idler pulley mounting bolts, (I take it that is NOT the idler pulley bolt that sticks out of the lower AC pulley? Bentley is again referring to the bolts on brackets?
