sounds like Oldsaab got you straightened out - he manages to give better directions than I do in half the time.

From what you said about how loose the belts were, I think that that's the source of your overheating. (Could be wrong, but if your pump pulley is slipping - that'll do it.) That's be cool - huh?

As for that leak, I just can't picture the bolt you mentioned.
PS fluid shouldn't be black, often is though - one of those things people dont' pay attention to. It'll feel a little "thinner" than oil too.
Let's talk about changing that fluid and maybe your thermostat later.

The belt - It should look like the one that's in there. If it's broad and flat, you got the wrong one. If the alt belt is right, replace it - it's right, yes? It's the inner one, so the A/C belt (which seems good) can be changed out later w/o screwing w alt. I guess replace the old A/C now and then again later when you get the right one. It's easier the second time.

PB Blaster is a powerful spray cleaner of the type you need.

Cleaning bolts - wire brush if rusty/gunky. Some WD-40 on a paper towel can be used to lightly wipe the threads then. You don't want these lubed or locked.

You talked about how to get torque on a bolt - when there is room a 1/2" breaker bar w a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter can give you a lot more bite. BTW - use 6 pt sockets whenever possible, they bite better and don't round off nuts as often. Also, good quality tools are worth the money.
