ref: C900, 1991, non-turbo, 105K miles, zero rust, generally cherry condition..
I've had several postings up regarding ABS/power brake assist failures. Here's where I'm at now (situation below with ignition switch on only, not engine running!):
When I turn on the key after the car's been sitting awhile, brake fluid light comes on (ABS light has been on full-time for months, but that's a secondary issue). Hydraulic (ABS) pump goes on as expected, fluid level in reservoir declines slightly, but then pump shuts off after about five or ten seconds, maximum. Brake fluid warning light goes off, but only one or two applications of the brake pedal will bring the brake fluid light back on, cycle repeats. Car not safely drivable in it's present condition (I already replaced the accumulator bomb with the used one but I don't think that's where the problem ever was.)
So I just now pulled the two relays from the ABS box over the PS wheel wheel. Fuses all OK. The main ABS system relay shows resistance of 78 ohms between terminals 85-86, which are the relay coil terminals. Zero resistance between 87a and 30, no continuity between 87 and 30, which are the normal conditions when the relay is not activated. So main ABS system relay is most probably good.
However the other relay, the ABS pump relay, show no continuity between any of the terminals, including between terminals 85 and 86, which are shown on the case as the relay coil terminals. Presumably the resistance there should similarly be about 80 ohms, as with the main pump. So I would say this parrot is dead dead dead and maybe I've finally identified the problem at least with the brake assist system.
Where do I get another pump relay and what's the fastest way to find one?
