You shouldn't be able to disonnect the AMM without full stall...so no surprise there...
The tick tick may be your distributor regulator (Thingy)...on left fender in front of wheel well...mine ticks incessantly and loud...my wires were cracked, even on my 92...but I had a no start symptom...
may need a fuel filter change....that may help in your loss of power issue.
