92 900t is on to something with the fuel filter-power loss thing. i assume you run the fuel tank low a lot (cause your a student! ha ha get it? ha!) prob clogged the filter up something good sucking down that sludge at the bottom of the tank. that's just a general maintenance fix thing though.
now. as the idle issues go. I have read a lot of posts about the ECT sensors on the early 900T's being very particular about default settings. this sensor tells the ECU how hot the engine is getting and should adjust the fuel injector on time according to that reading (as well as many other input readings)
in some cases people even solder a permanent resistor in-line with the sensor return wire to change the input reading.
Some blokes have even set up knobs on the dash to be able to adjust this setting. sort of like an "electronic choke" control. if you turn it way down it simulates a cold engine and the ECU will tell the injectors to go rich and spit fuel when only a little is needed at warm idle. you get it?
yeah and the injectors should be clicking. that's when you can tell they are working. you should be able to feel 'em pulsing too. tick! tick! tick! boom! but these old 900Ts like to clatter and chat a lot anyway. could be lifters, valves, timing chain....chain?! thats not good. time to pop the valve cover and check for excessive chain slack?
