chard black tops means used, shiny tops means new Posted by vvack0matic [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: how to recognise piston wear?, Fred, Wed, 18 Feb 2009 15:27:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
piston ware should be of no concern, only thing to make darn sure of is with the head off take high precaution of what debrie enters the chambers.
even just a grain of sand can destroy your rings, that is if it dont get sucked out or ground into powder first.
if you want to clean the tops of the pistons rag and liquid, and a little scrubbing, take one of them hand held vacuums and suck out any other chard debree that you can pull out. by hand.
to find if a pistons,/ or rings is bad it needs to be pressure tested.
to have liquid sit on the piston will not show. bad piston rings will hold the same liquid for indeffinatly, but when the piston compresses the air the bad rings can not hold a pressure build in to things could happen.
as the piston travels downward oil gets sucked in the chambers and when it travels up ward it pushes everything to the lower crank case.
only because the aspect of pressure being exsurted on the rings.
to test you rings with the head off put a little liquid on the top of the piston, then find a way to seal the chamber and pump up the psi in the chamber to 120.
now that i think about it, you wont even need liquid, if the psi is held indefinitely its good. have fun
note: only way i know of to seal the piston chamber air tight is to put the head on.
