I just replaced my crank pulley two weeks ago. Here are some observations:
1. to remove the AC belt pulley I used a 10mm box wrench with gooseneck ends. When replacing the pulley I used the starter to bump the pulley around 1/3 turn for each screw, which made it a much easier reach. If you do this, remember to disconnect the Hall Sensor connector (L side of engine, in front of oil fill tube, underneath throttle arm assembly).
2. The crankshaft bolt on my 92 900S was 27mm, not 30. Like you, I did have to trim a socket with a Dremel cutoff tool to make it fit.
3. I had no problem removing the bolt with a front wheel chocked and the car in 5th gear. I did have to put an iron pipe extension on my breaker bar to get enough leverage to crack the bolt loose.
4. If you are installing a new pulley, remember to switch the vaned ring from the back of the old pulley to the new one (attaches with small torx screws).
