Thanks to everyone for the advice regarding the oil pump seal /crank seal. I finished the job yesterday and the oil leak is fixed. The old oil pump o-ring was definitely shot as it was quite brittle and came out in pieces.
The crank seal came out along with the crank pulley. I'm not sure if someone replaced it and didn't seat it properly or what. I assume that normally I'd have needed to pull the seal from the oil pump housing. Regardless, it wasn't tough to see why it was leaking. And yes, I replaced it with a NEW SEAL regardless of its appearance.
I did end up pulling the plastic clutch cover to lock the flywheel in place. Setting the parking brake and blocking the wheels wasn't enough.
All in all not a bad job if you take your time. Less than $20 for the seal and o-ring. I'm not sure what a shop would charge for this but I'm certain it wouldn't be cheap. Tight clearances and tough access to bolts are the biggest obstacles. My advice - and that of many others - would be to replace the oil pump o-ring at the same time.
I'll move along to whatever the continuum chooses to throw at me next.
