Really shaky Idle Posted by Bob_SAAB_101 [Email] (#460) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bob_SAAB_101) on Thu, 20 Aug 2009 07:12:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
On my 94 vert, 2.4 engine , natually aspired.
I just finished the auto to manual conversion and now have the car started.
The engine runs really really rough at idle. Starts right up but iidle varies from 750 to 1000 rpm. It seems to be timing or misfiring.
If I rev it up it smooths up at around 1200 rpm. In fact it seems to have plenty of power, just really bad Idle. In fact it scares me to run it.
I replaced the distributor cap, rotor, plugs and wires with Bosc, Bougi and AKG. I had trouble on initial restart as the plug wires were off by one tower. (something must have moved when I pulled the distributor).
Since the restart I have cleaned all electrical connectors and clamped all vaccum hoses. I did notice a change in RPM if I pinched the thin hose going to the valve on the cam cover. It doesn't smooth out much but there is a noticable Rpm change for a moment, then it goes back.
The Gas is from last winter. The Gas Filter is really old, in fact I couldn't turn the banjo bolts so left it alone for now./
I also pulled the wires out of the connector at the knock sensor when pulling the engine. I filled the terminals with solder and put the wires in. Does polarity matter? I did not know where the wires original orintations was.
