Whether there is a "coding" plug in the LH wiring harness... I don't have Bentley or the factory books handy, but basically, there is a plug with two (occasionally three) positions, with a wire loop, and this connects into the LH harness someplace (usually near the LH box, but on that late a car, it might be at the connector under the rear seat, right side). It tells the LH that there is an automatic trans connected. There might be another connection in the harness, as well, that tells the LH whether the auto trans selector is in a gear, or in park/neutral. These inputs allow the LH to increase the idle speed when the auto trans is placed in a gear.
What may be happening is that LH still thinks you have an auto, and is allowing for slightly more idle with the AIC, which then gets higher than it should, and LH closes the AIC, and it just keeps going round and round.
You need to consult the manuals and find the coding loop and pull ut from the harness. Don't just willy-nilly pluck things, you really need the diagram for this one.
