I paid a shop $600 in labor to disassemble the whole motor, clean, inspect, rebore/hone the cylinders, cut to deck on the block, machine the head flat, valve job, clean again, paint, and reassemble using new parts I provided.
Parts list looked something like this:
1. New valve guides and seals
2. Main bearings, Rod Bearings, Rod Bushings, Set of oversize pistons, rings, timing chain, timing chain guides, freeze plugs, full gasket set, misc belts, hoses and fluids.
Of course, when the motor is separated from the transmission, it is a good time to install a new clutch disk, pressure plate, slave, throwout bearing, tranny seals and oil. Good time to repalace the inner driver seals and axle boots while they are easily accessible.
Note - do not put weight on the wheels with the axle nut loose, or removed, it can damage the wheel bearings.
The cost for parts varies from place to place, so find the best prices you can find.
