The issue that you're going to run into is that many '85s (if not most) suffer the same problem. Wholesale transplant with a used harness could be problematic. I would really recommend trying to see if you can narrow down what the problem actually is, and tackle it directly. At least know what you're working with before you start taking things apart. What you describe could be either or both, or could be as simple as bad grounds.
Unfortunately, the '85 harness is totally unique - there is no other identical year. I'm working on replacing my '85's with one from an '86 but I haven't fully investigated it. I figure if I can make an '86 harness run a 1980, getting it to run an '85 should be cake. :) '86s are also unique, but at least they are generally less problematic than an '85. Plus, if you can update to an '86, that makes finding the fuel injection harness (also unique to '85) all that much easier, since '86-'88s are all effectively the same on that side.
