It is very reliable. I bought mine as an automatic 5 years ago for $864 on Fleabay. I have rebuilt virtually every system in the car, done high performance mods, switched it over to a 5 speed from an automatic, and spent about $6-7,000 on it. Of that $6-7K, $2.5K was for rust repairs/paint, 2K was for the transmission swap, $1K was for SPG panels/wheel, and $1K was for a an engine swap that the car required because of my own stupidity (its a long story). It's only stranded me twice, once when the alternator died, and another time when the turbo oil supply line cracked and started dumping oil all over the road (see engine swap above). Didn't kill the engine immediately but a year or so later, the chickens came to roost (developed a rod bearing knock, which is fairly rare). The other $2 grand or so was in used turbo replacement, tires, sensors, used leather seats, power steering rack, shocks, exhaust etc.etc.).

If you get one in good shape, you won't need a lot of this stuff. If you rescue one from the crusher like I did, it costs more 9it was an impulse buy. All in all I am very happy with my investment, and the trip to and from work in it, is usually one of the better parts of my day - it is just plain fun to drive, get great gas mileage for what it is, and turns a lot of heads.

It is a great commuter car!
