I drive a '90 c900 NA 5 speed. I rely on it to get me to work and back and forth from school 7 hours round trip. These are great cars. They do need TLC though. Nice thing is repairs are pretty easy and not very expensive. The c900 is a great basic solid car.
Make sure there is no whine in the transmission. I don't suggest an automatic. If you buy it change 5 speed gearbox oil and convert coolant to Xerex or Benz coolant. It's not very expensive. If you're in traffic change the thermo/fan switch to the lower rated one.
I'm a car nut and have looked at BMW 3 series, Audi's, and Subaru's. In the end I'm sticking with my c900. You can pick them up for very cheap and nothing new has the same soul. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Good luck!
