All 16V Turbo distributors, except on 90-91 SPGs, all CEs, and those included in the later red box kits (comprising the red box, distributor, and 2.8 bar FPR) had the same timing curve. Despite having different Saab and Bosch part numbers, these later, high-performance distributors differ ONLY in the vacuum capsule, which is sprung differently and therefore creates a different timing curve. You could put a vac. capsule from one of these distributors on a run-of-the-mill distributor and it would now have the fancier timing curve. By the way, this "special" capsule is NLA, from either Saab or Bosch.
All LH2.2-equipped Turbos, i.e., 85-88, had oval plugs.
All LH2.4-equipped Turbos, i.e, 89-93 (+94 convt), excluding 90-91 SPGs and CEs, had square plugs.
All LH2.2-equipped NAs, i.e., 86-87 had Hall sensor-equipped distributors.
All LH2.4 and LH2.4.2-equipped NAs, i.e., 88+, have "empty" distributors, as the Hall sensor was moved to the crank.
Any Turbo distributor can be used in place of a failed crank-based Hall sensor, as the signal is the same.
The '85 distributor was one-year-only due to shaft diameter and perhaps some other internal differences; however, it is functionally the same as any other year.
I occasionally see forum posts by people who believe that their c900 16V distributor has weights in it. NO 16V distributor ever had weights; timing has always been controlled either pneumatically (Turbos) or electronically (non-turbos, with EZK).
Finally, the link below, to Genuine Saab (Taliaferro), lists some part numbers.
