The retard curve on the afore-mentioned 90-91 SPG et al. distributors is more linear than the run-of-the-mill (007/008) stuff, which starts to retard timing linearly with boost pressure, but, by 3-5 psi, suddenly retards fully, creating a flat spot as boost rises. Presumably, Saab did this to mitigate detonation. For more information, go to the Performance board and search "-010" and "010". Also search "AID" and maybe "Brad's AID" for information on modifying a stock vac. capsule.
The c900T stock timing system is quite crude by today's standards. Even the EZK was more advanced at the time, but Saab didn't figure out how to apply it to turbocharged cars until the advent of the DI/APC system, which integrated timing and boost control. If you are messing around with timing and want full control but not fuel control as well, look into MegaJolt.
