Does it leak only when driving or when stationary? Posted by RS [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Water leak...still, VT900, Tue, 2 Jul 2013 07:59:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The reason I ask is that there's a metal hole-filler with a rubber seal on the passenger side where the steering column would go through on a RHD car. That leaked on my car when driving on rainy days, dampening the foam padding and causing some rust holes on that side.
You can see it in the engine compartment under the ventilation box. The rubber seal shrinks and hardens with oil and heat exposure.
After cleaning its engine compartment side of that plug thoroughly with a good degreaser, I sealed it with the goo you can buy for sealing gutters at Home Despot. It hasn't leaked in a couple of years.
A few other things to look at:
- Upper corner of the windshield gasket, right where it meets the rain gutter. Take a piece of nylon wire tie and clean out the crud that collects there to minimize the amount of water that collects there.
- Rubber gasket around the air box sometimes shrinks a bit. Seal around that, especially the corners.
