New cat knocked the Nox readings way down and it passed easily. Fixing the exhaust leak may have done it anyway so too many variables. The guy at the muffler shop said the original cat was not designed to burn Nox like the newer ones but the newer ones do not last nearly as long - maybe 2-3 smog cycles. That is depressing since they are around $300 installed. Since we have three classic Saabs, the more info in hand when smog day comes the better. This car was extremely well maintained and had no real issues and ran perfect but still failed so for us out there battling it, a new cat might be the answer but make sure everything else is covered first. Cheers!
