Basically you just live with whatever rusts. The brake bleeder screws are good to pay attention to. I'd make sure to put the little rubber caps on the bleeder screws.

Keeping it outside isn't a good idea. Can you build a crude carport to keep leaves etc from piling up on it? Maybe invest in a car cover.

Definitely don't park it over bare ground for long times. Cover ground with builder's plastic and plywood over that, or as you suggest a good tarp. And have it somewhere where air can circulate, not in the woods. On a high point where water drains off on all sides is best.

Cover the seats and dash against sun damage.

If it has a sunroof, stretch a small tarp over the roof and close the doors on it, to keep rotten leaves, maple flowers, pine needles etc. from rotting and plugging the drain hoses.

Oh, mice might get in and make a mess and stink things up. Against this, people scatter mothballs or I think I recently read dryer sheets (phew).
