Update on the '85 900 Posted by JohnT [Email] (#1654) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JohnT) on Sat, 13 Dec 2014 14:46:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well I picked up the '85 from ilovemountains today, got it home, in the garage and pulled off the bent hood, bumper radiator etc. The chassis is pretty twisted and bent around the front motor mount. I think the only way I'll be able to really fix it right is cut and weld from the '82 parts car. I'm not the best welder but I think it will be quite doable. That may not be the biggest problem in fact.
When I saw it peeing oil on my garage floor I went uh-oh and yep, the transmission case is cracked. Not the end of the world but this brings up a question maybe someone can help with. The crack is in the primary drive casing which is bolted to the front of the main gear casing. Does anyone know if it's possible to replace the primary drive casing without dismantling the whole transmission? That would certainly make the job a lot easier. I was looking through my manuals and it looks like it just may be possible but I've never torn apart one of these gearboxes before. TIA for any wisdom anyone can provide!
