John T. I just studied the cross member photos in your gallery. Think about it. The car is old, not a show car, but has a nice rust free body, needs a gearbox and a few other easy obtainable parts. I'd bang that cross member down with a sledge hammer (engine out and wear ear plugs) to where it looks horizontal, bang the longitudinal square bar down and "in" a little, maybe a weld, (but not really vital) knock the two bumper holder brackets back to being vertical (holes)to easily fit another bumper.Bumper tips should be equidistant from each fender. Then install another radiator cradle (you will probably have to drill new holes in the cross member) and if it all fits and is centered try a new hood and if that works you are good to go. That cross member looks plenty strong enough for a non turbo car to last for years and none of the rebuild work will ever be seen! Nothing will fall off and the safety factor will be diminished only very slightly. I did something similar to my "85" turbo years ago and it's fine.
