blown turbo and oil pressure Posted by Rose quartz 87 [Email] (#2119) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rose quartz 87) on Thu, 24 Sep 2020 16:57:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi All,
After having my te05 12b rebuilt it started to make a siren noise soon after install. It boosted well for a while but then, long story short it bit the bullet yesterday. Haven't had it apart yet, but there's some serious smoke out of the tailpipe at all revs and a terrible scraping noise when the turbo comes in. (One of those noises that make you wince when you hear it).
I probably shouldn't have but I ran the car briefly this morning to test for oil pressure, in case that was the turbo's issue.
I have 51psi on startup cold idle.
I have 22psi warm idle and I have 49psi at 2000rpm after engine has warmed up. oil is 10w 40 castrol dinosaur.
If these numbers are ok, (are they?), what would cause the turbo to die so quickly? Bad install on my part? (oil, oil filter and air filter was changed on install, engine turned over for 20 seconds with hall connector removed to get oil in there before first start).
Running temps are good, 1/3 normal driving up to half way when in heavy traffic.
Thanks for reading.
