What kind of horsepower are you going to be making. I have a 1986 SPG pushing 350. The problem I run into is I'm tearing the teeth off of the cluster gear in third. I would love to know how it works out for you I would definitely be interested in knowing if that helps the transmission hold together. I've rebuilt a 1977 four-speed transmission twice and have torn it up within about a thousand miles of both builds. I tend to have a lead foot so most of it is most likely my fault. So I broke it last year and have not torn into it again I actually talked to Chris a little bit trying to figure out how to make the transmission stronger didn't really come up with a good plan though. I did talk to Nick he said I need to get on a laptop and trying lower the torque curve to keep the torque from breaking the transmission but what fun is that. Really just put the car on the back burner until I can figure out exactly what I'm going to do with it. Let me know how your build goes and if the transmission holds up. I have also built a cage that goes around the housings for the axles so I'm not getting any flex on the ring and pinion. I started spending the tires in third and so I let off and as soon as I let off the abrupt stopping of the spinning snapped the tooth off the pinion head. Luckily it caused no more damage I'm actually waiting on a ring and pinion to rebuild that transmission.
