I've used Lexol for years and it works very well. I use the cleaner first, then conditioner once every three months. It is a rather tedious chore, but your leather will look great afterward. The cleaner steps involve applying the liquid to a soaked sponge or washcloth, rubbing it down thoroughly, rinsing with another soaked towel, then drying. The conditioner phase is last. I apply it to my seats, steering wheel rim, center arm rest, door inserts, shift boot, and shift knob--all of which are leather on my car ('95 Aero). You '88 won't have this many leather components.
Don't buy Lexol from a leather or shoe dealer in the small bottles, which are very expensive. Find a feed store or other shop that sells saddle goods and buy a liter of both the cleaner (orange container) and conditioner (brown). This will last you for years, but is cheaper in the long run.
