Changing to Semi-Synth Oil, then full Synth, Opinions?

I've got an '88 9kt with 183k miles on the clock. In the past, on my non-non-intercooled '84 900t, I ran full-synth, it had 215k, and no problems.
However, since I did a R/R Headgasket and R/R Head I figure it's a good idea to switch the oils and with new seals on top, why not make the switch.
My plan is to run the semi-synth for 3k and then switch to Mobil 1 after that.. Thoughts?
